New Father: And then there were two

I am very happy to announce that my life as a pregnant photographer has come to a close. Lucas arrived on August 27th, and his father couldn't be more proud.

Big sister Ruth is thrilled too; she and Lucas are treating their mother remarkably well! So folks, I'm on maternity leave from now until the beginning of October. I think you can imagine what I'll be spending most of my time photographing (wink wink).

For my beloved clients, my availability opens the weekend of October 10th, for a Baltimore-area portrait session marathon that runs until the 13th. Give me a ring if you'd like to set something up! Some spots have already been filled. I'm looking forward to photographing:

  • two engaged couples (hooray for love!)
  • one big family reunion
  • a musician and her cello in the city
  • a little brother & sister pair in a flower park

In the mean time, keep in touch, and keep loving life!

Patricia in the Fields

While waiting for Lucas to arrive, I asked my friend Patricia if she wouldn't mind goofing around in a field for me. She readily accepted, and we had a blast enjoying the disappearing light of the dog days of August.

The lighting was gorgeous; we decided to camp out in a big field nearby the airport. It was alternately loud and then peaceful and wild.

Dog Days: The End of Summer

Summer has come to a close. I'm remembering all of the fun moments we've had with our friends and family, especially given our most recent news: we've moved to Boston so Steve can attend seminary on full scholarship!

We will miss Ruth's little friend Julia, who looks so much like her father. (Of course we'll miss her parents, too.)

We will miss all the friendships we've cultivated here. But rest assured, we'll be back to visit.

It's such a shame that so many of our memories here will probably not be available to Ruth, but hopefully all the pictures I've taken will give her an idea of how happy we were, and are.

And though we're living in Boston now, I'm still booking weddings for Baltimore in 2010. There are a now 6 slots left in my schedule, and for eager couples in either city, I look forward to hearing from you!

So farewell, summer, and hello to a brand new chapter in our lives!

Lucas at One Week / Lucas at One Month

In the middle of extra diaper changes, feedings, and managing a toddler, I managed to take a little time on Lucas' one-week-iversary to take a few portraits of him.

It's obligatory that I compare his baby photos with Ruth's; his hands are larger, his feet more gangly. His eyes are a tad smaller, but he has the same round face and mouth.

Of course, during the little photo session, big sister had to make her presence known.

Lucas at one week old

Since our moving odyssey, Ruth has made herself quite comfortable with Grandma's house--the house where I grew up, actually. Ruth eagerly familiarizes herself with the yard, while Grandma is quite pleased to familiarize herself with Lucas.

Ruth at Grandma's house

Grandma has been an amazing help, since Lucas has had his days and nights mixed up for the past few weeks. We're hoping that with a little concerted effort, he'll be straightened out by the time he gets his driver's license.

sleepless nights

It's hard to believe that we're a family of four now, but here we are, experiencing the thrills and miseries of a newborn, the discoveries of living in a new place, the love of family. So much is ahead, and so much behind. Here's to new beginnings!

Living in the Everyday

As I play catch-up around the house, furiously unpack my things, and learn how to deal with a brand new personality in the family, I came across these everyday beauties.

star wire

Yup, that's the gloriously shiny and tantalizing craft material, star wire. Every little princess' dream, when it comes to making crowns.

And of late, Ruth has taken to playing in the sink. We fill it with a little water and add plenty of dish soap to make bubbles. While playing, I noticed the lovely textures in the wet metal.

lovely bubbles

Small things can be glorious; a life needn't be filled with newspaper-worthy events to contain interesting things to photograph.
