A couples love, rooted in faith

Over the summer, I photographed my in-laws. This fall, I turned the camera on my parents.

Christian faith is central to my parents life, and so they requested that if we took portraits, that they would include an element of prayer in them. To try and make concrete something so deep, something so much about inner life, is quite a challenge.

And you know, I’m not at all sure I succeeded. I came away feeling excited, but defeated too. Perhaps part of the struggle was so much of myself as a daughter was on the table too.

All in all, though, it’s wonderful to have such meaningful photos of my parents.

  1. These are just lovely – the light, the sense of connection, the intimacy. Taking some portraits of my parents happens to be on my “life list,” but it’s a bit intimidating to contemplate.
