Tara + Roy: a wedding of warmth & light

Roy and Tara wed in a Catholic ceremony at Saints Patrick & Raphael in Williamstown, MA. As the family gathered, Roy waited anxiously in the sacristy, while Tara arrived in a car with her father.

church

A brilliant, sunny sunny day for a happy wedding.

After all those vows, prayers, and communion, it was such a pleasure to see Roy and Tara turn around and beam.

church-exit

I love the smiles on peoples' faces as they exit, but Tara & Roy gave me an extra bonus when they snuggled as they left the church--BOOYAH!

One little ring bearer didn’t cooperate exactly as planned during the portraits. He was too anxious to get to the reception, at Stamford Valley Golf in Vermont, housed under a white tent.

Tara's bridesmaids were all barefoot-in-the-dirt kind of gals.

And oh my gosh I just love that Tara got to wear an heirloom cross. And Roy sure looks smitten.

portraits

That necklace was worn by THREE GENERATIONS of brides.

Rows and rows of bright glow sticks and bubbles make for meticulous ring detail setups while people make chewing faces during dinner.

cake

Some really funky favors make a great backdrop for the rings (I like to play with the rings while people eat).

And the cake was homemade too! Ain’t that something? Here’s where things get mushy…

toast-cake

I loved stealing these moments of affection during the toast & cake-cutting.

I lined up the wedding party against a red barn full of golf carts and other do-dads. Then they threw their shoes at me. Well, let me explain: they wanted to take their shoes off, so I just told them to throw them at me all at once. Whee!

shoes

I'm being attacked by SHOES!!!

Tara’s five sisters choreographed an elaborate series of dances to perform for the newlyweds. I was JEALOUS!

I can't get over how coordinated & planned Tara's five sisters were with this dance.

There were LOADS of surprises for Tara & Roy at their wedding. One of the last ones was that her aunts (and a rogue uncle) got dressed up as nuns and sang a ditty from Sister Act. Yeah, it was just as goofy and awesome as it sounds.

Yep, they sang "Ave Maria" from Sister Act. NOT KIDDING.

And of course one of the most touching and visually striking events was tying the couple up in streamers… a tradition carried on at many of this family’s weddings. Tara & Roy had no idea it was coming! I’m a good secret-keeper.

I love this tradition, brought over by a relative from Holland--wrapping up the couple as a whole group!

Roy & Tara, thank you so much for having me there on your wedding day. I basked in the warmth and grace of your family, and was privileged to capture all the antics! May you have many years of bliss.

Great group shots Jocelyn – I do have a soft spot in my heart for barn backdrops, but the maroon dresses are just so wonderful against the red. Everybody really pops out, especially the bride in her white.

  13. Cathy showed us some of the photos right after the wedding — great work. My husband is a photographer and has done some weddings years ago, though mostly he photographs machinery — not so romantic, but it makes you appreciate good photos. Great to be able share a little of the joy with the family via your blog. Thanks for posting these!
