Megan + David: mountain top rehersal dinner in lush Vermont

I met David and Megan in person for the first time the evening before they were about to be married. Surrounded by their most intimate friends and family members, they basked in a warm, golden sunset surrounded by foliage just at the hint of turning toward autumn colors.

clouds and setting

Simply gorgeous stratocumulous clouds up there in the atmosphere.

The forecast called for rain all day the next day, but Megan and David weren’t going to let it stop them so easily, or let it spoil the celebratory mood.

rehearsal and autumn

Giddy faces, crunchy leaves.

The friends broke for victuals down at Mountain Top Inn’s beach pavilion by the Chittenden Reservoir.

beer and canoe paddles

Everyone needs a little taste of Vermont now and then, whether brewed or not.

The talking got louder and more excited as friends filtered in from faraway places.

Now's where the party really starts.

We snuck away for a few portraits down by the tall reeds and grasses.

couple portraits

A few quiet moments away from the swelling excitement.

David and Megan practically beamed; they soaked each other up like sponges.

My favorite image!

And time for a canoe trip!

Carefully, slowly now!

The sun began to set, and they navigated a little ways off the shore.

canoe paddling with kiss

You would not BELIEVE the expert paddling David whipped out in front of my eyes.

And they had observers shouting directions at them the whole time.

observers from the deck

"Look look!" and "Tip 'em over!" they yelled.

We made our way back in, and the eating and toasting began.

stories and toasts

Some wild stories and cheerful toasts to be had.

One moment caught my heart: watching David squeeze the life out of his beloved sister after she toasted him.

sister hug

He lifted her up right off the ground!

It began to rain off and on, but that didn’t stop folks from making a bonfire outside and toasting marshmallows late into the night.

bonfire and s'mores

What this rainy cold autumn night needs is some FLAMES.

Quite a fitting precursor to an autumn New England wedding, I’d say!
